Dr. Sujit Kumar Paul is a Social Scientist, obtained Master’s and Ph.D. degree in Rural Development from Visva-Bharati (A Central University). He is also a development practitioner, researcher and resource person in the field of development studies. Dr. Paul is teaching and supervising Post Graduate students of Rural Development and Management and Ph.D Students of Social Sciences since 2000 in Visva-Bharati (A Central University), Sriniketan, India. He is supervising and guiding Ph.D Scholars on regular basis and six numbers of students have already been awarded Ph.D under his supervision. He has conducted several research projects funded by National and International agencies. As prolific writer, he has published more than 100 research papers on various developmental issues in the National and International journals of repute. He authored seven books – “Tribal Agriculture and Modernization: the Change and Continuity”, “Poverty, Health and Development”, “Rural Development: Concept and Recent Approaches” , Women Empowerment: Challenges and Strategies”, “Empowerment of Tribal Women Through Self-Help Group”, “Education and Development” and “Sustainable Development through Education”. He also edited three issues of the International Journal of World Education, published by the Association for World Education, Denmark. Presently, Dr. Paul is working as Head and Associate Professor in the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Visva-Bharati (A Central University). He also served as Deputy Dean in the Institute of Rural Reconstruction of the same University for more than 4 years. Dr. Paul visited different countries for academic, research and extension activities. He is closely associated with various Government and non-government organizations, societies and associations in different capacities. He is the Vice President (International) of the Association for World Education – An International NGO with consultative status in the United Nations. Dr. Paul was awarded ‘Bharat Shiksha Ratan Award’ by the Global Society for Health and Educational Growth, New Delhi in 2015 and ‘Mother Teresa Sadbhawana Award’ for his outstanding achievement in individual contribution for National Economic and Social Development in 2016. His areas of specialization are Rural Development, Rural Livelihood, Tribal Studies, Continuing Education & Lifelong Education, Rural Governance and Decentralization, Women Empowerment & Civil Society Organizations.
